Important information for Parents regarding

Club Championships

To qualify to swim in 25 metre and 50 metre events a club member must:

  • Be nominated and entry fee paid, in every event in which they intend to swim.  Please be aware that nominations close on the 29 February 2008.  No late nominations will be accepted.
  • Be fully paid up, ie. BSA and Club fees.
  • Have swum on at carnivals or club nights at least six times (if joined before Christmas 2007) and at least three times (if joined after Christmas 2008).

Rules that apply for Club Championships:

Medals and General Information:

  • Medals will be awarded to the fastest three boys and girls in each age group.

  • Races are swum according to year born.

  • Where there are two or more heats, times will be taken over the entire event, with medals awarded to the fastest three swimmers overall.  Parents are asked to explain this to swimmers.  A placing in a heat may not necessarily win them a medal.

  • Some events with limited numbers have been combined with others.  Medals will still be awarded separately for these events.

  • There is a one start rule.  If a swimmer breaks, they will be disqualified.

  • Medals will be awarded after the completion of each stroke.

  • The Barbeque will be operating during Championships.
  • Please feel free to invite family, friends, grandparents etc, to watch your children swim in the Club Championships.

Parents:

  • Parents must stay away from the edge of the pool and may not approach the starter, timekeepers, recorders or referees at any time.

  • Times will be recorded by officials, directly from the timekeepers and will be available later during the Championships.  They will also be available on our club website.

Referees/Officials:

  • Referees will be in attendance to check for illegal stroke and may disqualify any swimmer with an illegal/incorrect stroke.

  • They will be fairly lenient with 25m swimmers and may opt to demote rather than to disqualify, with preference being given to those swimming the correct stroke.

Referees will be checking:

Breastroke:

  • no freestyle kick at all

  • arms to pull simultaneously and not down to the hip

  • touch with two hands at the end

Butterfly:

  • no freestyle kick at all

  • arms to pull simultaneously to the hip

  • arms to recover out of the water

  • touch with two hands at the end

Backstroke

  • no rolling over onto the front at the end, or at any time

All strokes:

  • no jumping off the bottom of the pool

  • no pulling on lane ropes

Trophies:

  • Age Champion trophies will be awarded to the boy and girl in each age group who achieve the highest points tally from the Championships.

  • The allocation of points towards Age Champion is as follows:

                            Gold Medal - 7 points.

                            Silver Medal - 3 points.

                            Bronze Medal - 1 point.

  • In the case of a tie, the number of 1st places, then the number of Championship records broken will determine the winner.  If still a tie, joint Age Champions will be named.

  • Age Champion Trophies and trophies of various levels will be awarded at our Presentation Night, on Friday 28th March 2008.

  • Our overall Club Champion will be the swimmer with the most points for the season.

  • Our top 3 distance swimmers will also receive trophies.

  • Good luck swimmers!
